George Nelson (1949-2001)
George Edward Nelson was born September 26, 1949
in Omaha, Nebraska. He graduated from the University of South Florida
in 1974, and from Oklahoma City University with a juris doctorate
in 1978. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and the
Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity. He was also a member of the Oklahoma
Bar Association and National Bar Association. He was licensed to
practice before the Oklahoma state courts, the United States District
Courts for the Eastern, Northern and Western Districts of Oklahoma,
the United States Tax Courts, the United States Tenth Circuit Court
of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. He also served
in the United States Army during the Vietnam War with the 101st
Air Borne Division.
George died July 28, 2001 in an airplane crash
in Lockesburg, Arkansas. Also killed were his wife, Suzanne Cowart
Nelson, his son David Joseph Nelson, and his daughter, Mary Kate
Nelson. The Nelson family were on their way to Florida for a long-awaited
vacation.
George practiced for more than twenty years in
a solo or small firm practice. In 1986, he formed George Nelson,
P.C., a professional corporation. George had a great passion for
the practice of law. It is an honor to continue the firm he began.
