George Nelson (1949-2001)

George Edward Nelson was born September 26, 1949 in Omaha, Nebraska. He graduated from the University of South Florida in 1974, and from Oklahoma City University with a juris doctorate in 1978. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and the Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity. He was also a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association and National Bar Association. He was licensed to practice before the Oklahoma state courts, the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Northern and Western Districts of Oklahoma, the United States Tax Courts, the United States Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. He also served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War with the 101st Air Borne Division.

George died July 28, 2001 in an airplane crash in Lockesburg, Arkansas. Also killed were his wife, Suzanne Cowart Nelson, his son David Joseph Nelson, and his daughter, Mary Kate Nelson. The Nelson family were on their way to Florida for a long-awaited vacation.

George practiced for more than twenty years in a solo or small firm practice. In 1986, he formed George Nelson, P.C., a professional corporation. George had a great passion for the practice of law. It is an honor to continue the firm he began.
